Windows7 “GodMode”

by Jon Beck, CFP on January 30, 2011

Believe it or not, Windows7 has something called a “GodMode”.  Had I known about this earlier, it would have saved me significant amounts of time performing various tasks with Windows7.  Like what?

Have you ever tried to set the resolution of your screen when connecting to a projector?  Have you ever tried to change the power settings on your laptop so the screen saver wouldn’t appear so quickly?  Me too.  All the time in face.  To find these settings in Windows takes a bit of hunting and pecking –until that is, you turn on GodMode.

To turn on GodMode, create a new folder on your Windows7 desktop.  When asked for the name, copy and paste this into the folder name:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

You’ll notice that shortcut icon will change if you’ve copied and pasted correctly.  Now, when you click (or double-click) on your GodMode folder, you’ll see something like this:

SNAGHTML3f210a7

Notice that you have a complete listing, by category of every Windows7 (plus some Microsoft applications) setting.
